Week #8: Anatomy Drawing

Overview:

This week we had to learn how to draw human anatomy and proportions so I decided to draw a 2B from Nier Automata because I couldnt think of anyone or anything to draw and I really like that game.

Inspiration and Process:

The first thing in the process was the 8 Head proportion and the line dot skeleton that gives rough height proportions that human characters should more or less follow. Next was the blocky body that gave the proportions of the character’s actual body not just skeleton.

Next was the sketch of the character, I mainly used these 2 images as references.

I feel the sketch went quite well for my first time doing anatomy and proper proportions as the body looks properly human. I think the main areas of improvement would be the forearms and hands which were very hard to get scaled properly and I think they are still a bit too small. Hands were hard in general to draw but scale amplified this issue. The second main issue is shading, which is still something I’m not very comfortable with but am working on in my own time. I think that this character being very monochromatic with her black and white outfit was particularly done out with the lack of shading. In future I would also like to add more detail like little creasing and waves in the fabric of the dress, The bottom right of the dress felt pretty successful with its folds but the rest of the dress feels quite flat.

Overall:

Overall, there is quite a bit that could be improved with this sketch but as a first look into anatomy and proper proportions I am quite happy with it managing to look like it properly resembles the character I was trying to draw.
